The pups that we choose for obedience training are among the best of the litter. We start with a pup that has outstanding conformation, a sweet temperament & a calm disposition.  We  begin training the pups at 6 weeks old. When they are placed in a home, they will be potty trained, crate trained, walk on a leash, basic obedience training including, come, sit, stay, down, wait , heel & High 5. They learn to chase & retrieve the ball & drop it at your feet. They will learn right from wrong.

Included with all of the above your preschool pup will learn about riding in a car. We take the pups out on field trips to various safe location, where they socialize with a variety of people & new experiences in order to prepare them for the outside world with their new families.

While in training your pup will live in our home with us. We teach the pups not to bite at hands, feet or clothes, and that digging & barking are not allowed. During the course of obedience training, your pup will also learn to be groomed, bathing, blow drying, nail trimming , teeth brushing & ear cleaning.

Ideally, training time is about 2 months, although some pups take less time & other a bit more, it all depends on the pups personality & how quickly they pick up their obedience training. They are all individuals and we take that into account with their training.

We will have their preliminary hip & heart tests done before they go home. They will also have an Avid Microchip implanted.

We do all of our training, in our home. We believe that in order to train a puppy to become a great companion he/she needs to be trained in the home.  They will have  been a constant companion to our family . We will have spent many hours everyday working with their obedience training.  They will be very well socialized with people and other animals.

We recently became more involved in placing dogs with children with disabilities. We have a number of our trained dogs that are working with children with Autism. As well as several that have gone on to become Canine Companions for Independence, working in grief counseling & other service & therapy related jobs. While not all of our animals are capable of becoming working companions, we have enough experience in matching dogs with their new homes, that we can greatly assist you in choosing a companion to help with whatever your special needs may be.

Trained pups that are living with their new families.

Hi Barbie & Tim,

Just thought you might enjoy an update on Allie.  We love her to death.  She goes everywhere and does everything with us.  You did such an amazing job getting her off to the right start & have made our lives so much easier.  I continue to reinforce everything that you taught her & am having a blast teaching her new things.  She's got the "wave" & rolling over down.  We continue to work on "wait", but I think that I'm most of the problem with that one.  Now we're working on giving presents (taking & dropping a gift bag for someone), resting, going to sleep, peek-a-boo, & playing baseball (she picks up a ball & trots to 4 pieces of paper representing the bases).   Fetching the ball & general cuddling continue to be her favorite pasttimes, though.

She was really the puppy for us.  You're right about her having a strong opinion at times, but we love her all the more for it.  She continues to have a real personality & makes us laugh constantly.  Even her veterinarian & the staff at the Dr's. office beg us to bring her by occasionally so they can watch her grow & perform.

We took her on her first boating trip a couple of weeks ago to Catalina Island.  She had so much fun!  I've attached a few photos from that weekend.

I hope that all is well with you & your very large "family".  Have a great holiday season.  I'll send you an occasional update.

All the best,
Sue Vermeeren
Hi Barbie and Tim,

Well, we've had Cooper for 2 weeks now and he is just wonderful. He is so sweet, mellow and well-behaved! We all just adore him and he is so good with our kids. He knows just when to be playful and when to just hang out. He is so cute with his toys and loves retrieving. The kids love throwing tennis balls to him in the yard. He is still doing great with his commands too. His easy-going nature combined with your great training has produced great results.  When we took him to the vet a little over a week ago he weighed 40lbs. and was the best behaved dog there. He also rides great in the car. We can't thank you enough for such a great dog. He is the perfect fit for our family.

Many thanks,
Carrie Taylor

Hi Barbie,

Just wanted to send you a couple of pics of Nicki.  She is doing great.  Still chews on the kids toys, but not on the house and furniture so much.  We got her some HUGE Mammoth bones that she loves, ha!  One picture is of the day we got her and Ryker seeing her for the first time.  It's one of my favorite pics because he was so happy to get her.  He couldn't stop hugging her!  The other pic is of her just laying down being a good girl.  Thought you might like an update.  Ryker sat on Santa's lap this weekend and told him that he wanted a Transformer for Christmas and then I heard him say, "My dog Nicki has been a good girl and she would like a rubber bone".  Ryker's Kindergarten teacher sent home a paper the kids had each done for Thanksgiving and Ryker's said "I am thankful for my Nicki".  I usually crate her right before he gets home from school because she gets sooooooooo excited to see him she can't hardly let him through the door (kind of like Fred and Dino, ha).  Once he gets inside and settled, the reunion begins!  She is very good for him and we are so happy to have her.  Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

Jenny Roark
